Talent Contest Rules and Requirements

ALL ENTRIES MUST BE RECEIVED BY June, 17 2011

This year, the Big lake Spud Fest will be introducing a talent contest to take place on Teen Night Thursday June 23rd 2011. The contest will be for local school age people K-12. Talent must be of one the following categories:
• Musical and/or Singing
• Theatrical⁄Amusement i.e.; juggling, comical, magical, dance, open


The winners of each of the two categories will have the opportunity to play on the Main Stage of Spud Fest Saturday June 25th, 2010 12:00-1:30 pm. Time will be split based on acts requirements there will be no fee for entering the contest. The winners, in addition to the opportunity to play a Main Stage each category winner will receive $50.00 cash.

The talent contest will be judged by a panel of three judges randomly picked which will select the top performance each of the two categories.

    Judges Criteria
    Judges scoring will be based on the following:

  • Material selection and appropriateness – maximum 5 points
  • Execution of performance – maximum 5 points
  • Showmanship and stage presence – maximum 5 points
  • Rhythm arrangement and difficulty – maximum 5 points
  • Total points possible – maximum 25 points
  • Should a tie occur winner will be based on audience applause.

RULES OF THE CONTEST

    RULES
    All rules will be strictly enforced.

  • All contestants will play a maximum of 6 minutes total
  • No act shall have more the 2 members without prior approval
  • There will be a maximum of 10 acts in the contest (either 5 of each category or a combination of 10 from the two categories)
  • Contestants will be preselected by an independent panel from the list of entries. Contestant preselection will be determined by the independent panel and will be based on a review of entries submitted. Criteria for selection will include performance quality and other criteria, including having a balanced and varied set of performances.
  • All entries must submit information utilizing Spud Fest talent contest forms (see link), and should provide examples of their work. The examples could include up to 2 songs/dances on CD's, DVD's, tapes, videos, written word etc. The material must be submitted with the entrance form, and must be received no later than June 18, 2011.   • For groups not selected submitted materials must be picked up no later than 6pm June 27th at the main food test. BLSF is not responsible for lost or damage materials
  • All routines, music, choreography, and costumes must be suitable for family viewing.
  • BLSP talent contest officials reserve the right to disqualify any act for any reason, including acts considered distasteful or vulgar.
  • All decisions of the BLSF staff are final.
  • Participation in the talent contest indicates approval to use any photo or video image taken during the event in future literature.
  • A sound system will be provided. Any electrical instruments (bass and/or keyboard only) will be required to use the PA system provided as an amplifier. Individual amps will not be permitted. Drum kits are not permitted**.
  • No piano will be provided.
  • Only live music for act. (For dance groups, live music is not required.)
  • Each act shall have a time limit of 10 minutes. (subject to change based on number of acts)
  • Table chairs or any other props will be the responsibility of each act.
  • Each act will be allowed 10 minuets for set up.
  • All will be required to be on site no later the 6:30 pm Thursday June 23rd
  • How to enter the talent contest
  • Final listing of talent show participants will be available on-line during the week of June 25th. In addition, the contest managers will notify the participants of final decisions during that week.
